Itching for a 50.....

I feel like a very proud momma these days.... well, wife.

My hubby IS A RUNNER!!!!

He started running a mile here and there last May. Slowly over the summer and into the fall I was able to get him to run a couple 5 milers. He hated it. Most runs were terrible for him, and he learned he needed to use an inhaler before a run, other wise he couldn't breath. He began running more this winter (on the treadmill) and decided he was ready to try a half marathon... what the heck, he hasn't even run a 5k. Anyways, we found him a very beginners training plan, and he started following the schedule. I decided I didn't want to.. train him, so to speak, because I didn't think mixing husband/wife with our recreational learning would be the best idea. I have still given him plenty of advice and he has been able to chat with a few of his friends who run.

He broke his right leg pretty badly when he was 16. His family didn't have insurance so it wasn't fixed properly. He still has problems with that leg, especially the more he runs. He has constant pain while running, and he can't seem to stretch enough or massage it enough. He has powered through and now his first half marathon is in 2 1/2 weeks. I will run his half with him then continue on and finish with the full 26.2. If all goes well, he is planning on running his second half on April 16Th in Salt Lake City, the day I run the full with my sisters.

On Saturday I ran my 22 miler and then Greg needed to run his long run of 13 miles on Sunday. I was able to work it out and was able to run his 13 with him, which made my total in 2 days 35 miles. Greg asked me at the end of his 13... "Does this make me a runner now?" teehee. I was tired and sore, but extremely happy about my distance. I have to admit, I am now itching to run a 50 mile Ultra, sometime.. hopefully sooner then later. I just need to pick one and my sister said she would even run with me. Wahoo!

I never knew....

Started my run this morning before 8 am and the snow wasn't sticking. I headed down the road with some Taylor Swift on the ipod and made my way to my favorite out and back route. As I turned directions, the wind was blowing the snow so hard into my eyes that I had to squint to keep from going blind. I tried to hold my hand up to block the snow from my eyes, but my arm got tired. haha
By the time I turned around at 2.5 the snow was really starting to come down and was sticking nicely to the road. I was running through slush and getting all kinds of looks from the passer bys. I loved it. I loved every bit of my run today. I didn't get to hit the speed I wanted, had to slow a tad for the slippery slush but I don't care. It was so much fun and I had the time of my life. When I got home I had a message that the 5 year olds school was closed and she needed to be picked up. We now have several inches and I couldn't be happier. I never knew how much I loved the snow till I moved to Kentucky. It doesn't snow big amounts here, but even an inch or two will shut everything down. They are just not equipped to handle the snow here.
I miss my Utah home.

$$$... a chunk of change

Wahoo!!!!

I just registered for not one, not two but three marathons.... all for this spring. YIKES

Marathon #1 of 2011 (#14 overall) is March 12Th. Land Between the Lakes trail run.... there is a 14.2 miler, marathon, 37 miler and a 50 miler.... wow... I am just happy to be healthy enough to run the marathon this year. I am hoping to run the 50 next Spring. Let me rephrase that.... I WILL run the 50 Mile Ultra next Spring. My sister runs 2-3 Ultras per year and I am itching to join the elite club. I am just not ready this year. Even though I lost 11 pounds in Jan, I still have a ways to go. Hoping for another 10-15 by March 12Th.

Marathon #2 of 2011 is Salt Lake City Marathon. I ran this one back in April of '07, but this year I am running with 2 of my sisters and so far, I have 2 friends planning on running as well. This will be marathon #1 for my twin sister, and I am doing everything in my power to make it a positive experience.... (can you tell I am trying to turn her into a full marathoner?)Marathon #3 of 2011 will be the Nashville Country Music marathon on April 30Th. I live with in just a couple hours of Nashville and decided this year is the one for me. I think it's big, I think it's going to be loud and I have heard it's going to be hilly and hard. I am OK taking on this challenge. I am all about taking on a new challenge. Hills kill me. I love them, but they kill me. In preparation for Country Music, I will run hill repeats at least once a week.

Registering for all 3 of these marathons was a chunk of change. $$$ I am so lucky my hubby just wants me to be healthy and happy. Actually he is planning on running the 14.2 miler on March 12Th and the half marathon on April 16Th. I couldn't be more excited or more proud. I am turning him into a runner, and I am thrilled to the gils about this.
